FAQ
Sensory jewellery provides tactile and/or oral stimulation. Foss & Bjørn’s collection is unlike many others on the market in that our necklaces and bracelets are also beautiful to look at and can be worn like any other piece of jewellery. Sensory jewellery is beneficial for individuals with sensory processing needs, including those with autism, ADHD, anxiety, or habits like nail-biting. They’re also useful for new mothers with small babies who find it hard to sit still! Our pieces are safe to chew on or fidget with.
Yes, our jewellery is designed with infant safety in mind, made from materials that are non-toxic, BPA-free, and meet or exceed safety standards. However, our necklaces are not toys and should therefore not be left with a child unattended. Our bracelets can function as teethers and can be safely left with a child (including those under 3), necklaces should always be worn by an adult and not those under 3. See our Product safety page for more details on our safety credentials.
Not at all. While our jewellery can be particularly helpful for individuals with autism, ADHD, or anxiety, many people without diagnosed conditions find our pieces useful for focus, stress relief, or breaking habits like nail-biting. And of course, you might suspect that you have a condition but don’t currently have a diagnosis – testing our jewellery might just help.
Absolutely, that’s why we exist! We design all our pieces to be elegant and professional-looking. They provide sensory input without drawing unwanted attention, making them suitable for work, school, or other formal settings as well as socially.
Yes, that’s why we exist! Our necklaces and bracelets are discreet options for providing sensory input without being obviously for this purpose, making them wearable in professional and academic settings, as well as socially. Choose your design based on your colour preference, for matching with a particular outfit, or to suit a particular occasion.
Yes, many find our jewellery helpful in reducing habits like nail-biting, hair twirling, or skin picking. The tactile stimulation provided by our pieces can serve as a replacement behaviour, giving your hands and mouth a safer alternative to focus on.
Yes! New mothers with small babies find the necklaces useful because their infants are more likely to sit still when they fiddle with a necklace – and ours are safe to be chewed on, and have a safety clasp that means no more broken cords from those strong little hands, and no more painful necks from metal digging into your skin. Just because you’ve had a baby doesn’t mean you can’t look chic and stylish!
Yes, some users report improved focus when using sensory jewellery, where the tactile stimulation helps to channel excess energy or to give a sense of grounding, improving concentration (individual results may vary).
We use a variety of safe, durable materials. Our current launch collection focuses on pieces made from food-grade silicone, and future collections will also include natural wood. All our materials are thoroughly tested and certified safe for oral stimulation and prolonged skin contact. For more on our safety credentials, see this page.
Yes, many customers find our jewellery helpful in reducing nail-biting habits. The tactile stimulation provided by our pieces can serve as a replacement behaviour, giving your hands and mouth something else to focus on. Please see our Benefits page for more details.
All our pieces can be cleaned with mild soap and warm water, but you can also put them in the dishwasher (without any food items) or the washing machine. For more specific care instructions, please refer to the care guide included with your purchase or our Cleaning & Care page.
Yes, all jewellery in the launch collection consist of waterproof pieces.
Most of our jewellery is designed to withstand daily activities, including light exercise. However, for intense physical activities, we recommend removing the jewellery to prevent damage or loss – and like with most other jewellery, necklaces and bracelets may interfere with your performance in high-intensity sports activities.
Our jewellery is designed to withstand regular use, including heavy daily chewing and fidgeting. However, lifespan will vary depending on the intensity of use. We recommend checking your pieces regularly for signs of wear and tear, and replacing them when necessary (we offer a repairs service too!).
Yes, we offer customisation on many of our pieces. This can include choice of colour of the necklace itself, or choice of colour on the cord. Please check individual product pages for customisation options. The necklace Høstfjell lets you choose colours of the necklace from a set design, and on Smögen you can choose between multiple cord colours. We are working on offering further personalisation options in future. We also do fully bespoke designs, where you choose the location that the necklace or bracelet is inspired by.
Absolutely! Much of the sensory jewellery on the market today is tailored to children with autism and/or ADHD. We want to offer the same calming features in beautiful necklaces and bracelets, providing discreet sensory input in professional, educational or social settings for women and teenage girls.
We offer a 90-day return policy on unworn, undamaged items. Due to the nature of our products, we cannot accept returns on items that show signs of use or those that have the tab removed. Please contact our customer service team for more details.

We recommend starting by reading our Benefits page, which explains the benefits of different types of sensory input. Our jewellery is designed to be a discreet soothing and calming option suitable for professional and academic as well as social settings, so choose your design based on your colour preference, for matching with a particular outfit, or to suit a particular occasion – just like any other necklace.
You have a few options – perhaps they have a favourite colour? If so, you can find a necklace that incorporates this colour scheme. If you’ve for instance noticed that they prefer bracelets over necklaces, that narrows down your products to choose from too. Or you can consider activities they like – if they enjoy swimming, choose a piece that’s inspired by a lake or fjord; if they’re into hiking perhaps a mountain inspired necklace will go down well. Or you can always go completely bespoke and choose a location that you know means something special to the recipient, and we will create the necklace based on that place and your instructions (including things like favourite colour). If you’re still unsure, our customer service team would be happy to help you find the percect piece based on your specific needs. Please contact us using this form.
