Cleaning & Care

Our jewellery is robust and durable, and built to withstand a lot of force such as pulling or chewing – but no chew tool is indestructible. If you take good care and clean it regularly, it will not only help extend the life of the jewellery, but also make it look its absolute best for longer.

Please also see our Product safety section for more important information about how to best use your necklace or bracelet.

It’s important to clean your necklace/bracelet regularly, and you can do this as often as you like – it won’t affect its use or durability, but cleaning regularly does prevent build-up of germs and bacteria. The silicone material isn’t porous and therefore you don’t need to worry about germs and bacteria building up on the inside.

Silicone can withstand very high temperatures and can therefore safely be sterilised in any type of steriliser (the most common being microwave, steam, cold water, or UV light). This is particularly useful if you’re using them around a small child.

The jewellery can be easily cleaned by hand using warm water, either rinsed under the tap or wiped with a damp cloth or a wet wipe. You can also use soap for a really thorough clean – any soap works, e.g. hand soap, washing-up liquid or any other liquid soap. We recommend not using bars of soap as pieces from the soap might break off and get stuck on the necklace which might then be inadvertently swallowed later. A dishwasher or washing machine can also be used – if not washing by hand, we recommend using a washing bag so the cord doesn’t get tangled up in other fabrics you’re washing at the same time, or stuck to the inside of the machine itself. And if you use a dishwasher, we recommend not cleaning it alongside items with food as it can stain the jewellery.

You don’t need to worry about water or liquid soap seeping in to the jewellery as silicone doesn’t absorb liquids.

Once cleaned, leave to air dry for a few minutes before next use, or wipe with a dry towel.

The lifespan of our products depends on the frequency and intensity of chewing and handling, as well as the jaw strength of the person wearing them. How long you can expect to have full use of your jewellery will therefore vary from person to person – but silicone is a robust material, and you can expect your jewellery to last a long time. Just in case, we do advise you to check for any tears or breakages before each use, and discard (or ask us for a repair here!) if the jewellery is no longer in the condition it was when you received it.

Regular cleaning of the jewellery will help make it last longer.

The clasp is a break-away clasp designed to stay safely in place and to come apart when too much tension is applied. This helps avoid injury (for more on this, see our Product safety section here). To keep the clasp in good condition for as long as possible, we recommend you open the clasps by pushing them down and then apart, rather than directly away from each other.
