Smögen is a small coastal town in West Sweden, a gorgeous place to while away a few hours; in the sea, in the bars and restaurants or perusing the many small independent shops along the waterfront. This necklace is inspired by the sea-front shops which are housed in the iconic and colourful traditional fishermen’s huts along the pier, mirroring their vibrant colours.
The necklace has been fully tested by an independent, accredited lab, and conforms to UK, EU/EEA, Canadian and US safety standards. It is free from harmful toxins and completely safe (more about our safety credentials here) and the cord is soft yet strong. The hypoallergenic materials make it suitable for sensitive skin too.

Design inspiration
The West coast of Sweden is full of small, adorable villages and coastal towns. Smögen is one of the more famous ones, a gorgeous place to while away a few hours in the sea, in the bars and restaurants, or perusing the many small independent shops along the waterfront. This necklace is inspired by the sea-front shops which are housed in the iconic and colourful traditional fishermen’s huts along the pier, one of the many reasons the town is so popular amongst locals and tourists alike. The vibrant colours of the huts are mirrored in the beads on this necklace to evoke a sense of coastal charm and lazy, hazy, summer fun.
Populated since the 16th century, and now a major tourist destination, Smögen is a jewel in the Swedish West coast summer crown. Summertime makes a major departure from normal life for the 1,300-or so year-round inhabitants, when the area swells to many times its regular size with visitors arriving by car, coach, bike and sea.
I spent most of my childhood summers on the Swedish West coast, a result of growing up on the coastal East side of Norway very close to the Swedish border, and being born into a family who loved being on and near the water in the summer. We would spend the bulk of each summer holiday – and weekends as soon as the weather was warm enough – exploring the Swedish coast and their inland waterways on our family boat, a 27-footer my dad built in our front yard when I was a little girl. Many of the summery locations you see in the Foss & Bjørn collection are therefore inspired by Sweden, of which the Smögen necklace is one.
